How to Become a Successful Pharmaceutical Sales Representative
By Ryan Stewart
Are you thinking of switching careers and becoming a pharmaceutical sales representative? Well, you better prepare for some stiff competition. Many fresh college grads are contemplating on entering the same field upon graduation simply because it IS a lucrative career. The good news is, whether you've got extensive experience or a newbie in the arena of pharmaceutical sales, your chances of breaking into the profession are pretty decent.
The pharmaceutical sales field is often described as "recession-proof" as it has first-rate salary potential and offers great flexibility, growth opportunities, and excellent benefits like the use of a company car. Increasing life expectancies and improved quality of life count among the factors driving the expansion of the pharmaceutical sector.
Reaching the Top of the Pharmaceutical Sales Rep Ladder
There's no one profile that pharmaceutical companies adhere to when looking for outstanding sales reps to represent them. But the usual prerequisites for the position include a strong work ethic, demonstrated ability to work within a team, good spoken and written communication skills and a four-year college degree.
Industry insiders say it's tough to get your foot in the door with a pharmaceutical firm. But once you're in, the challenge moves on to making yourself stand out performance-wise.
Who has what it takes to make it in the field? Although there's no one recipe for 100% sales representative success, there are stuff people can do to improve their odds. Here are a few items to remember en route to achieving pharmaceutical sales representative success.
* Pharmaceutical companies favor people who are positive and highly confident. The job isn't for those who are 'meek'. The sales rep hiring process entails a lot of grueling interviews and rejections. In a way, it gives aspiring pharmaceutical sales personnel a taste of what the actual sales representative job would be like.
* Drug companies value people skills like diplomacy and tact. Those who manage to land an interview need to be prepared to ask and answer questions regarding the firm's products.
* The really successful pharmaceutical sales reps are the ones that possess an entrepreneurial spirit. People who think outside the box have good chances of excelling in the pharmaceutical arena.
* Maintain a can-do attitude at all times while keeping your integrity intact.
* Pharmaceutical sales has a lot to do with learning difficult information. Mastering the product info sheets is critical to achieving pharmaceutical sales success.
* Be prepared to concentrate on goals until they are all achieved. Companies love tireless and mentally-tough workers.
* Sales representatives have to be good at following up and deciding on which areas to focus their time and efforts on. A typical sales rep day will involve several calls to the doctors' offices, pharmacies and hospitals. You've got to be psyched-up every single day for all that. Doctors feed off your enthusiasm and excitement. You have to be just as fresh for your 8 p.m. call as you were for your 8 a.m. appointment.
The essence of a good pharmaceutical sales representative is communication. Individuals who communicate well can engage listeners. Good communicators are also exceptional listeners themselves.
Other absolute must-have traits of a great pharmaceuticals sales rep include a knack for presentation and negotiation, empathy, ability to anticipate client needs and influence. While there's no substitute for good old hard work, the above pointers can help increase a person's chances of attaining success in the pharmaceutical sales representative field.

Is Becoming an Independent Sales Representative Right For You?
By Scott Schreiber
Become An Independent Business Owner As A Sales Representative
There are a lot of ways to get into business for yourself. A lot of them involve a pretty large investment to get started and have an extremely high risk attached as well.
There is one opportunity that has a much lower risk of failure and also needs comparatively little investment to get going. That is to become an independent sales representative. With a business like this, you've got the option of choosing the products you intend to represent and the types of organizations you intend to work with.
You also have the ability to grow your company without making additional investments in R&D, manufacturing design, market assessment or the development of marketing materials. All of that is usually done for you. Your job is to find and market to possible buyers in your area and produce new sales for the companies you represent.
How To Become A Sales Representative
The process to be a sales representative will vary depending on the type and level of products you want to represent. If you are looking to work with organizations that have especially complex and expensive products, you may have to have an engineering degree or substantial technical skills to offer that product. In those cases, the company may require you to go through extensive training, pass tests and make a sizable investment in testing and technical products to support their offerings.
So, if you don't have those skills, or the money to invest it is best to steer clear of those forms of products. Instead, concentrate on things which are less complicated and don't require as much support. It's also advisable in your initial stages to keep away from products that have lengthy and complex sales cycles. The longer the cycle, the longer it will take till you begin to generate any money.
Alternatively, if you have expertise in this area and can afford to wait it out, long sales cycle products normally also have the best return.
So to be a sales representative is fairly easy. One of the ways you can get going immediately is to go online and search out one of the many existing services that put sales representatives together with suppliers. One example of a good company to work with is, "manufacturers-representatives.com". They make registration incredibly easy and allow you to access an exceptionally wide range of companies.
There are many more similar to this, so do a little bit of research and find the ones you think best fit your requirements. I'd also recommend that you work with more then one, this provides you with a broader base to select from when you are ready to get started.
Growing Your Sales Rep Business
There are publications on selling and I am not going to tackle this here, but what I do want to focus on is the upside potential of a business like this. Keeping in mind that the primary goal is to find and generate new customers. One of the advantages of this business, is that once you have found and built a base of customers and developed a trusted relationship. You can go back to your rep sites and look for similar, or related products that you could offer to existing customers.
The possibilities here are endless. If you have a client that buys industrial cleaning products from you for their equipment, you might be able to find a line of machine lubricants to add. You already have access to your customers buying team, so they will be willing to spend time with you and will have a higher trust relationship, because of your past sales experiences.
You can also spend time with your new customers asking them what sorts of products they need and explore your sources to get those products and present them as well. The one word of caution here, is to ensure that the products you intend to introduce are of high quality. A bad product, even though you didn't manufacture it yourself, can finish you in a market and harm your reputation.
Remember as a Sales Representative your first responsibility is to your customers. Always keep that part in mind and you will be able to select the best companies to rep and have the best long term relationships with your customer base.

How to Become a Manager - Even If You Have No Previous Experience
By Madisen Harper
Throughout my 18 years of business consulting one of the greatest frustrations my clients experience is around management. Either trying to become a manager, supervisor or team leader with little or no experience, or problems with difficult managers.
As a result, I've spent a LOT of time coaching those who want to become a manager and providing them with the resources on how to be a good manager from day one of their career with the aim of fixing their second problem in the long-term. But first thing's first. You have to get the job, before you can do the job and here's what you need to know in order to take the next step up the corporate ladder:
*** Know Your Value
Most employees never realize how valuable their skills and knowledge are. As a result, they feel 'lucky' just to have a job, as opposed to thinking THEIR EMPLOYER is lucky to have THEM! That's the first step into becoming a manager - knowing you have what it takes and are capable of making valuable contributions to an organization.
*** Showcase your Skills
You've no doubt come across those annoying people who love to blow their own horn, it's all about them, them and them. But have you also noticed that the more they tell everyone how good they are the more opportunities come their way? You don't want to be someone who people roll their eyes at, but you can highlight your skills in a powerful way to fast-track yourselves into a management career.
*** Prepare for the Future
Just because you aren't in a management position now, doesn't mean you shouldn't study their roles and responsibilities to educate yourself on what they do. The phrase 'fake it, to you make it' applies perfectly in this situation. You can easily start working on a management characteristic in your current role, for example you can ask your boss if you can help them do the budgeting, and start developing financial skills.
There are dozens of strategies that will prepare you for when a great opportunity arises.
*** From Good to Great
As I said earlier, a lot of people have challenging relationships with their managers. So wouldn't it be great if you could learn from their mistakes and study the characteristics of how to be a successful manager?
That means you don't have to start from 'bad' and can go from 'good' to 'great' throughout your career.
Plus, great managers create high performance teams and businesses and who wouldn't want to work with them or be one of them?
Feel confident in knowing you can become a manger, and build your executive experience in your current role by using the above techniques and other proven strategies. Develop a plan so when the next promotion opportunity arises you're prepared and ready to take the leap from a job into a career.

To begin a career as an accountant apply for admittance at a college or university and begin taking the prerequisites for entering the business school. Computer Science Degrees For The Tech-Savvy Individuals
By Kayla Russell
If you've spent even a few minutes living in today's modern society, you'll recognize that the computer is quickly becoming the epicenter of everything. More and more of our daily routines are being relegated to being controlled by or performed on a computer. Knowing how to use a computer is therefore a very valuable skill.
Attending college is all about acquiring knowledge and on top of that, acquiring skills. Leaving college with a degree is like having a certificate that proclaims to the world that you're ready and prepared with a certain skill set related to your major. So, if you're looking to hone your computer skills, you don't have to look much further than your local college.
Computer Science is a broad field that can cover a wide spectrum of topics. Computer Science isn't about using your computer to browse the Internet or play video games, though. Computer Science is about the insides of a computer, what makes the computer function, and how to make a computer function in the best and most efficient manner possible.
Suffice to say, a Computer Science degree is the major you should pursue if you're truly interested in understanding the technology that drives our daily lives. The work of Computer Scientists typically falls into three different categories. First is designing and building software, or the programs that run on our computers. The second is developing effective new ways to solve computing problems. The final category is devising new and improved ways of using a computer, usually in specific fields like robotics.
Computer-related degrees have become exponentially more popular in colleges in recent years. Part of the reason for the popularity is the fact that corporate recruitment of top Computer Science graduates has remained steady even through America's current economic situation. Software, health care, trading, agricultural and even financial companies are all on the lookout for these accomplished graduates.
Solid job prospects are definitely a driving force behind why many students are choosing to pursue Computer Science degrees. Job prospects are expected to be excellent and growing at a rate that is much faster than average compared to the rest of the jobs in the country. On average, employment for computer scientists is expected to increase by 24 percent within the next seven years - a number that's practically unheard of in our current economic status.
The Computer Science degree is to help you become a highly trained and innovative worker with the ability to pursue theoretical thinking as well as concrete thinking. Most students end up going on to pursue graduate work after completing their undergraduate degree in order to maximize their need for knowledge in the field. Computer Scientists with a PhD earn a median annual wage of $97,970, so it's worth the while to pursue higher education for your future.
Computer Science degrees aren't just a passing phase in the world of education. Computer Scientists are necessary to our very way of life, now so deeply mired in the world of technology. If you want to be part of the process of pushing the world into the future, register for classes today - not one minute later - and start the process of earning your degree in Computer Science online by enrolling in online classes through an accredited institution.

Also, the on-the-job training takes four to six months to complete. As such, you may have to forgo some aspects of your social life in order to concentrate on your training.
Get a License
Upon satisfactory completion, you will be required to get your license to practice as full-fledged stockbroker. Depending on the state you are in, you will be required to take one or more licensure examinations. These examinations include:
* General Securities Registered Representative Examination (Series 7 exam), as administered by the National Association of Securities Dealers
* Uniform Securities Agents State Law Examination (Series 63 exam)
* Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam (Series 65 exam)
Passing these examinations is a pre-requisite for your license. If your on-the-job training was sufficient, you should be able to pass these rigorous examinations with flying colors. When you have your license, you can now become an employee of a brokerage firm or, if you are dying to be your own boss, open a brokerage house.
Develop The Necessary Traits
Just because you are licensed does not automatically ensure success as a stockbroker, far from it. You still have to develop the traits necessary in becoming one. Just to mention a few, you will need self-confidence without being arrogant, astute analysis of the market without being a smartass, unassailable integrity without being too much of a saint, and persuasion skills without being the stereotypical greasy salesman. Indeed, your personal and professional traits can make or break your career more than your knowledge ever will.
When you can adeptly combine a solid education, broad experience and training as well as outstanding personal and professional traits, you can become the next Michael Milken.
